970 Lonely Bay | Coromandel

exteriorarialviewThe lodge is tucked away in a lovely setting overlooking the land and sea. The views are particularly beautiful from the 2 Bedroom Suite and the sunny main deck is fantastic for evening drinks and breakfast. It is very quiet and peaceful and within a walking distance to the beach; the walk to Cooks Beach is shorter than the walk to Lonely Bay Beach and perhaps a little easier for older guests. 970 Lonely Bay is approximately 30 minutes drive from Whitianga, where the main restaurants are; however the lodge offers dinner with a 24 hours notice or the wonderful host will take you to the ferry landing where you can catch a 3 minute ferry transfer to Whitianga. The ferry service is continuous and it is quite fun to catch the old ferry to dinner, the boat has great character and we didn’t think our travel to the restaurant was a problem at all. The lodge is beautifully appointed, elegant, new and clean; all spaces are very bright with lots of light coming through all day. Loring, the host, is delightful: very helpful, knowledgeable of the area and full of great stories! As the lodge is a very intimate, boutique property, I think it would be at its best when taken for exclusive use to guarantee privacy to the guests.

Recently I had the opportunity to visit the Navigate Oceania property at 970 Lonely Bay on the Coromandel Peninsula. What a superb property! I was met by the delightful manager Loring and taken on a guided tour of the house which includes three one bedroom suites, and one two bedroom suite all of which have ensuites. Most rooms give way to an outside balcony and there is a fabulous amount of private areas in which guests can relax in both inside and outside. A short distance away across a bridge and nearby reserve you find yourself at the northern end of beautiful Cook’s Beach. Loring had been doing some baking and we were very spoilt in being able to try her plum tart and lemon gin cake! I would thoroughly recommend this property for a stay on the Coromandel Peninsula.
